HENDERSON, NV (KXNT) - As the weather gets warmer, and the days get longer, the transportation projects tend to pick up in Southern Nevada.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will install 75 new overhead and side shoulder freeway signs along the 215 Beltway between Stephanie Street and Eastgate Road in Henderson as well as Interstate 515 / Interstate 11 between Sunset Road and U.S. Highway 93 in Henderson and Boulder City from March 17 through April 26.

Work will occur nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. The $160,000 contract calls for removing and replacing freeway signs over a 22-mile area due to age, damage, and new language with the Interstate 11 designation. The largest signs, measuring 28 feet wide by 10 feet tall, weigh over 1,000 pounds. Motorists can expect lane restrictions and possible travel delays through the work zone.

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone, heed construction signage, and take alternate detour routes, if possible. NDOT works with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but unscheduled construction changes, closures, and restrictions are possible due to weather or other factors. For the latest state highway conditions, visit nvroads.com or call 511 before driving.

Transportation officials will also be working along Oso Blanca road, closing it at Farm Road from 7 a.m., March 18, until 6 p.m., March 22, in northwest Las Vegas.

The temporary 24/7 closure is needed for underground flood control enhancements as part of a $78 million, six-mile-long widening and upgrade of U.S. Highway 95 between Ann and Kyle Canyon roads that broke ground in January 2018. Las Vegas Paving is the general contractor. The project calls for expanding the highway from four to six lanes from Durango Drive to Kyle Canyon Road, constructing Elkhorn Road carpool access ramps and building a diverging diamond interchange at Kyle Canyon Road. Other enhancements entail placing decorative rock, erecting signage and lighting, and installing storm drainage. Construction is scheduled to finish this summer.
