CLARK COUNTY, NV (KXNT) - Clark County, Nev. - On Saturday September 08, 2018, the Division of Parole and Probation, in conjunction and cooperation with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, conducted an operation called the Community Based Offender Reporting Initiative. The operation offered offenders with transportation challenges residing in zip codes 89005, 89030, 89052, 89074, 89102, 89105, 89109, 89115, 89119, 89120, 89121, 89122, 89142, and 89169 the ability to comply with their monthly reporting requirements without leaving their community.

By providing temporary Community Based Reporting Centers where offenders can report close to home, the Division anticipates that monthly office visit attendance will increase and absconder rates will decrease. One objective of this initiative is to allow offenders that may be indigent or otherwise incapable of traveling to the Division of Parole and Probation Southern Command location the ability to maintain compliance with the conditions of their supervision. The initiative will also allow Parole and Probation Officers to become more involved in the communities they serve and work cooperatively with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to enhance public safety.

During the nine-hour event, 14 officers of varying ranks from Parole and Probation set up a temporary reporting location at the Las Vegas Metropolitan sub-station, located at Harmon Avenue and Pecos Road. This event provided the same services normally offered at the Parole and Probation Southern Command Office such as urinary drug screening, counseling referrals, home contacts and collection of restitution and fees.

The statistics are as follows:

Monthly Reports 234
Home Contacts 12
Home Contact Attempts 26
Urinary Drug Screens 52
Arrests 1
Restitution and Fee collection $11,523.00
Community Counseling Center Referrals 10
Day Reporting Center Transfers 3

This event is one more step toward achieving the goal of working together with fellow Southern Nevada law enforcement organizations in order to accomplish the Mission of the Division of Parole and Probation – to enhance public trust and safety, and to provide assistance to the Courts and the Parole Board. The Division's purpose is to provide professional supervision of offenders to ensure community safety and successful reintegration into society.
