Man critical after hit by car while fleeing police

DI Superarterial was shut down in both directions

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - A man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car while fleeing police on the Desert Inn Superarterial Monday morning.

According to Metro Police, just before 9am , the LVMPD responded to reports of a hit and run collision that occurred at Valley View and Desert Inn. Patrol officers located the suspect on the eastbound DI Superarterial and detained him.

During the investigation, the suspect was able to get out of his handcuffs and fled across traffic lanes into the westbound direction of the Superarterial, where he was immediately struck by a vehicle. The suspect was transported to Sunrise Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Captain Sasha Larkin provided a media statement on the incident.

An examination of the incident is being conducted by the LVMPD’s Critical Incident Review Team, focusing on policy, tactics and training during the event.
