Henderson Police give update on officer-involved shooting

It all started with a call about a kidnapping

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Henderson police met with the media on Wednesday to give more details into a recent officer-involved shooting.

On the night of October 15,  policeresponded to the area of East Lake Mead Parkway and Boulder Highway to investigate the report of a kidnapping/armed robbery, which ultimately ended in an officer wounding the suspect seven times.

During the initial news briefing, it was reported that the suspect exited his vehicle with a firearm in his hand, which resulted in the officer-involved shooting.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect did not exit the vehicle armed with a firearm. It was determined insread that the suspect discarded the firearm prior to the accident.

A loaded gun was located on the roadway along the path of the pursuit. Investigators believe that this is the firearm that the suspect had in his possession during the kidnapping/robbery and the firearm the officer saw in the suspect’s hand during the vehicle pursuit. This handgun was recovered and impounded by investigators.

Based upon these findings, the suspect, David Flores Jr., has been charged with the following offenses:

1st Degree Kidnapping w/a Deadly Weapon
Robbery w/a Deadly Weapon
Attempt Robbery w/a Deadly Weapon
Assault on a Protected Person w/a Deadly Weapon
Driver Disobeying a Peace Officer/Endangering other Persons/Property
Possession of a Gun with an Altered/Removed Serial Number
Ex-Felon Possession of a Firearm

Flores remains in stable condition expected to survive. 

The investigation is still ongoing. This is the fifth shooting involving Henderson police in 2020. The officer involved remains on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
