Oakey Boulevard To Close At I-15 This Weekend In Downtown Las Vegas

Temporary Closure Needed For Milling, Asphalt Paving As Part Of Project Neon

March 28, 2019 - 11:32 am

LAS VEGAS (KXNT) - You may run into some slight delays, but usually when it comes to cone zones during the weekends, things aren't that bad.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will close Oakey Boulevard at Interstate 15 (between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Western Avenue) from 7 p.m., March 29, until 6 a.m., March 31, in downtown Las Vegas.

The temporary closure is needed for milling and asphalt paving overlay as well as final lane striping as part of Project Neon’s nearly $1 billion 4-mile-long widening of Interstate 15 from the U.S. 95 interchange to Sahara Avenue, which broke ground in 2016. Project Neon is 94 percent finished and scheduled for substantial completion in this summer.

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone, heed construction signage, and take alternate detour routes, if possible. Check the Project Neon website

( or Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter pages (@NDOTProjectNeon) for up to date information. There is also a free smartphone app available, plus a hotline available in both English and Spanish at 702-293-NEON (6366). NDOT works with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but unscheduled construction changes, closures, and restrictions are possible due to weather or other factors. For the latest state highway conditions, visit or call 511 before driving.
