NHP Investigating Fatal Car Crash On Decatur Involving Off Duty Metro Officer

Impairment Not Believed To Be Factor In Crash

LAS VEGAS (KXNT) - Preliminary investigation revealed that on Monday, May 20, 2019, at approximately 10:15 pm, a At the same time, a pedestrian was crossing Decatur Blvd. from west to east outside of a marked crosswalk ahead of the Dodge. The pedestrian entered the path of the Challenger and was struck by the front of the vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased.

The identity of the pedestrian is pending next of kin notification. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this crash. This crash remains under investigation.

Involved in this crash was an off-duty Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department employee. The Nevada Highway Patrol will refer media inquiries on the LVMPD employee to the Las Vegas
Metropolitan Police Department’s Public Information Office who will respond in accordance with their policy and procedures.

This marks the Nevada Highway Patrol – Southern Command’s 17th fatal crash resulting in 18 fatalities for 2019.
