Trash Pickup Rates Going Up

Rise In Rates To Begin In October

July 19, 2019 - 6:50 am

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Valley residents will have to pay a little bit more to have their trash hauled off.

Wednesday night, the City Council approved a measure that would raise trash pickup rates by 5%. That translates to an increase of roughly $2.30 per quarterly bill.

The extra money raised from trash pickup fees will be put into a separate fund, with much of that money going toward cleaning up homeless camps as well as trash and debris from city streets, storm drains, and vacant lots.

The only "no" vote toward the measure was cast by Councilman Stavros Anthony. Anthony said he wished their was more public input on the proposed raise before the matter was voted on. The issue was up for public discussion one time, though, but nobody showed up to talk about it.
