LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - The Nevada Department of Transportation will partly activate the Active Traffic Management (ATM) freeway signs beginning Monday morning at 9.

42 ATM signs were installed along both sides of I-15 between Russell Road and Washington Avenue as well as along U.S. 95 between Valley View and Las Vegas Boulevards as part of Project NEON.

Starting Monday, motorists will notice digital speed limit signs to the right side of the ATM truss structures, along with lit High Occupancy Vehicle signs to the left. Both signs are fully lawful and enforceable traffic controls. Should the signs go dark, the enforced speed limit reverts to the last posted static speed limit sign.

Once testing is complete, the full-color LED overhead signs will provide next-generation, real-time driver information about planned and unplanned incidents, speed limit changes, and lane use control, with the goal being to improve safety and traffic flows by reducing differential travel speeds and the likelihood of secondary crashes.

The entire ATM sign network is anticipated to be fully operational by the end of the first quarter of 2020.
