Southern Nevada Gets Mixed Grades In New "Best Places To Raise a Family" Study

Henderson Highly Rated. NLV? Not So Much

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - A new study is out that looked at the best places to raise a family, and like real estate, where communities in Southern Nevada fell on the survey depended on location, location, location.

The financial website WalletHub looked at 180 cities and used 47 key metrics to come up with its findings that consider essential family dynamics, such as the cost of housing, the quality of local school and health-care systems, and the opportunities for fun and recreation.

For Southern Nevada, the study was a mixed bag, with Henderson faring best with a ranking of 23rd. Las Vegas came in at 59th place, while North Las Vegas finished an abysmal 135th.

At the top of the "Best Cities For Families" list- Overland Park, Kansas. The rest of the Top 5: Fremont and Irvine, California, Plano, Texas, and South Burlington, Vermont.

Where don't you want to raise a family?

WalletHub says Detroit. The Motor City was at the bottom of the rankings. Joining Detroit in the Bottom 5: Newark, New Jersey, Cleveland, Memphis, and Shreveport, Louisiana.
