Raiders Say Progress Being Made On Stadium, Parking Plan

Stadium On Schedule For August 2020 Completion

May 24, 2019 - 6:58 am

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Representatives with the Oakland Raiders and the Raiders Stadium authority briefed the media on Thursday and the news was mostly good.

As far as the stadium goes, work continues to be on schedule for completion in August of 2020. Right now, work on the stadium is about 45 percent complete.

The second issue addressed was that of parking and will the team have enough spaces to accommodate those on game day. While not getting into specifics, the Chief Operating Officer of the Las Vegas Stadium Co. says they're in the final stages of presenting a comprehensive transportation plan that will develop more available parking spots. Don Webb says that comprehensive plan is expected to be completed next month, with details being released to the public at that time. Specifics couldn't be given yet because of a non-disclosure agreement, but it was said that the stadium is working on lease terms with nearby property owners to help free up more available parking spots.

Officials with Clark County have said that 16,250 parking spots are needed, but so far that number hasn't been reached.

Representatives with the Regional Transportation Commission were also on hand to talk about how they plan to step it up on game day, saying they're examining the possibility of extra bus service as well as the option of taking a shuttle to the stadium that would be similar to what the Vegas Golden Knights do on their game days.

One more possible alternative is related to the underground "people mover" operated by Elon Musk's Boring Company. Funding to build the people mover under the Las Vegas Convention Center was approved this week, and if all goes well, extensions to McCarran Airport and Raiders Stadium aren't out of the realm of possibility.
