Officers Involved In Laughlin Shooting Identified

Robbery Suspect Shot After Multi-Hour Standoff

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Metro Police has identified the officers involved in a fatal shooting of a robbery suspect who was holed up in his car on Monday.

The officers involved  have been identified as Officer Cory Mikkelson and Officer John Susich.. Officer Mikkelson is 52 years old and has been employed with the LVMPD since August,1994. Officer Susich is 42 years old and has been employed with the LVMPD since March, 2006.

Officer Mikkelson and Officer Susich are assigned to the Special Weapons and Tactics Bureau. Both have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident.

It all began early Monday when police say a man attempted to rob two casino cages, one at the Golden Nugget, the other at the Aquarius. Police in the are quickly responded to the Aquarius scene, and the man, who still hasn't been identified, took refuge in his car.

After a standoff that lasted for several hours, police say the man got out of his car and pointed a weapon at officers, who then fired shots. The man died at the scene.

No officers were hurt. Casino Drive in Laughlin was closed for hours as the situation played out.
