LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Much like Clark County's gaming win, passenger numbers from McCarran International Airport saw a nice boost in July when compared to numbers from when casinos were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Unfortunately,  just like the gaming numbers, overall passenger traffic is way off from the same month in 2019.

Numbers released Thursday by McCarran for July 2020 showed a 64 percent drop compared to July of 2019

The reports showed that there were 1.6 million arriving and departing passengers last month. In July of 2019, that number was 4.5 million.

The year-to-date numbers also show a drop. By July 2019, 29.8 passengers had traveled through McCarran. As of July 2020, that number is just 13.3 million- a 55% drop.

Of course, air travel has been decimated by the cornavirus pandemic, and that's especially true for overseas travel, which was down a stunning 98% for the month of July. There were only 5,000 international passengers in July, compared to 335,000 in July 2019.

Southwest Airlines continues to be the busiest carrier at McCarran, but they've still experienced a 56% drop in passenger traffic to and from Las Vegas since the beginning of 2020. Spirit Airlines was the second-busiest, followed by American, Allegiant and Frontier.
