Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - The man who police say threw a one month old girl to her death from a second floor apartment balcony over the weekend was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday, but instead is being held in a psychiatric ward at the Clark County Detention Center.

Police say on Saturday, 32-year-old Clarence Martin Jr. tossed the one-month-old infant after getting into an argument with his girlfriend, the mother of the child.

Investigators then say he set fire to the apartment near Eastern and St Rose, killing the family dog. After that Martin fled the scene, causing several accidents, including a rollover near McCarran airport, where he was eventually arrested.

Martin faces Open Murder, Animal Cruelty and Arson charges.
