LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - High speed rail transportation from Las Vegas to Los Angeles has been an idea that's been in the works for a long time, but that idea usually fizzles out.

Tuesday, though, it appeared that it's becoming much closer to reality with the announcement that Virgin Trains is ready to invest $2 billion for a high speed rail system that would link Las Vegas with Victorville, California, with an eventual extention planned over to Palmdale and then down to Los Angeles. The goal is for operations to beging some time in the year 2023.

The Virgin Trains plan was presented to the Clark County Commission on Tuesday

The plans call for the trains would be all electric and run every 45 minutes. An estimated 13,500 workers would be used to help build the high speed rail system.
