LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Vegas Golden Knights Defenseman Shea Theodore revealed Thursday morning that has was diagnosed with testicular cancer this past offseason.

Theodore wrote about the diagnosis in a self-penned article on The Players' Tribune Website.

Theodore says he received the news after laying for Team Canada in the World Championships. A random drug test revealed Theodore tested positive for a hormone linked to testicular cancer. A blood test confirmed the news.

Surgery was confirmed, and the mass that was removed was a stage 1 tumor. The random drug test taken for the Worlds may have saved Theordore's life, as it detected the issue before the cancer had a chance to spread.

Theodore is expected to make a full recovery and be ready to go when the regular season begins.
