LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - A 62 year old man was killed Monday night after he was struck and killed by a car being driven by an off-duty Metro Police officer.

Investigators say the man was walking outside of a crosswalk just after 11 p.m. near the intersection of Sahara and Decatur when he was hit.

Police say the driver swerved to try and avoid the pedestrian, but was unsuccessful.

The man was transported to University Medical Center’s Trauma Center, but died a short time later. It’s not believed impairment was a factor in the accident.

Nevada Highway Patrol is handling the investigation, as it involves a member of Metro Police, just as Metro would handle an investigation that involves an NHP trooper.
