Off Duty Metro Officer Shot In Confrontation

Two Suspects Also Shot. All Wounds Minor

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT)- A Las Vegas Metro Police officer is recovering after being shot following a confrontation with a group of men on Wednesday night.

According to Metro, around 11:30pm an off-duty LVMPD officer off-duty officer observed several people surround another person in a neighborhood near Decatur and Gowan.

The off-duty officer approached the group and attempted to verbally diffuse the situation. One of the suspects then turned around with a handgun and pointed it at the off-duty officer. An exchange of gunfire occurred, and the off-duty officer was struck and went down.

The suspects then ran to a vehicle and fled the area. A short time later, a car stop was conducted on the suspect vehicle in the area of 4th and Ogden.

Three suspects were taken into custody, two suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The injured suspects were transported to UMC Trauma and treated for their injuries.

This is the 14th officer involved shooting of 2019. Per LVMPD policy, the identity of the officer involved will be released after 48 hours.
