LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - The numbers are at the same time shocking and not the least bit suprising.

With the COVID-19 pandemic strangling the travel industry, new numbers released by McCarran Airport on Thursday show the effect of the cornavirus pandemic with startling clarity.

Passenger traffic at McCarran Airport was down 96% in April of 2020 compared with numbers from April of 2019

Only a little more than 152,000 went through the airport in April, compared to 4.3 million in April of 2019.

For what it's worth, Southwest was by far the busiest carrier, followed by Sprit and American. McCarran didn't put out numbers for international travelers.

May's numbers aren't expected to be much better, as harsh restrictions remained in many places throughout the country, and Nevada casinos not reopening until June 4th.
