Coronavirus cases see largest single-day surge since August

Nye County added to "elevated risk" list

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) -The Southern Nevada Health District added 736 new coronavirus cases to Clark County's total on Saturday, bringing that total to 78,162.The virus-related death toll in Clark County rose by 3 to 1,481.

Clark County's recent spike in cases put it back on a list of what's called "elevated risk". Seven other counties - Carson City, Elko, Humboldt, Lincoln, Lyon, Nye and Washoe are also on the "elevated risk" list

Counties are considered an elevated risk if they meet two of three criteria — fewer than 100 average daily tests per 100,000 people in the county (234 for Clark County), more than 200 total cases per 100,000 people diagnosed and reported in the past 30 days (470 for Clark County), or a test positivity rate over two weeks of more than 8 percent when there are also more than 50 cases per 100,000 people (9.2% for Clark County).

Statewide, there were 94,812 positive cases (up 1,146 from Thursday) with 1,743 virus-related deaths (up 5). It was the highest single day case count since August 14th

Nevada's test positivity rate over the past 14 days is 9.8%, with a 14-day rolling case average of 539.
