LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT)- Las Vegas Metro Police have made an arrest in the case of a 12 year old boy who was hit and killed crossing a southwest Valley street.

Johnny Smith was killed back on March 25th when he was struck while crossing outside of a crosswalk near Sunset and Fort Apache. The accident led to a campaign to put a traffic light in at the intersection of Fort Apache and Arby, near where the incident happened, a signal that just recently went online.

During a court appearance on Monday, Angel Manuel Lopez had his bail set at $20,000. Court records show that Lopez posted bail, with his next court appearance set for February 18th

Investigators say that Lopez was driving more than 20 miles over the posted speed limit when he hit Smith and another boy. The second child suffered minor injuries.
