American Red Cross Issues "Emergency Need" For Blood

Just A 3-Day Valley Supply On Hand

July 10, 2019 - 8:37 am

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - The American Red Cross wants your blood.

The organization said Wednesday that they’re down to just a three-day supply of most blood types and are facing what they’re calling an “emergency need” to keep their shelves stocked.

The Red Cross says the number of people donating blood in the Valley has seen a dramatic drop in 2019. Last month alone, there were 24,000 fewer donations.

In response to that, the Red Cross has added more than 8,000 appointments at donation centers and community blood drive.

The Red Cross likes to keep a five-day supply of blood on hand, and they’re saying that all types are needed right now.

People interested in donating can make an appointment by using the blood donor app at, or by calling 800-733-2767.

The Red Cross says appointments are recommended because donors can complete all the paperwork in advance on their computers.
