LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Las Vegas-based Allegiant Airlines announced on Monday that it would be laying off 87 employees as the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the travel industry.

The laid-off staffers will be fully paid through the end of September, with medical benefits paid through the end of the year.

The employees will also receive severance pay and full restoration of any pay concessions made since the beginning of the pandemic.

Allegiant is the 5th largest passenger carrier at McCarran Airport but, like all other airlines during the pandemic, their passenger counts have plummeted. Allegiant served just over 20,000 passengers at McCarran in May of 2020, In May of 2019, the airline served almost 222,000.
