LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Western parts of Nevada were shaken awake early Friday by a powerful earthquake.

The U.S.G.S. measured the quake at 6.5 with the epicenter approximately 35 miles west of Tonopah (roughly 200 miles from Las Vegas).

The were no early reports of any injries or serious damage to buildings, but the Nevada Highway Patro says an area of U.S. 95 near Tonopah suffered damage that may make the road impassible.

The quake struck at 4:03am and has spawned more than a dozen aftershocks.

Residents as far away as San Franciso and Las Vegas reported feeling the quake.
