LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Three people were killed in two separate accidents that law enforcement believes were caused by impaired driving.

The first crash happened just before 4pm at Tropical Parkway and Torrey Pines. Police say the driver of a Mercedes was passing slower traffic on a dirt shoulder and when she attempted to get back into lanes of westbound traffic, lost control and struck a car heading eastbound.

The driver of the car that was hit was taken to University Medical Center but died from her injuries. The name of the victim hasn't been released.

The driver of the Mercedes has been identified as 61 year old Marsha Byrd. Byrd suffered minor injuries. After being medically cleared, she was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on DUI and reckless driving charges.

In the second crash, police say that just after 8pm, a car heading north on Lamb Boulevard approaching Cheyenne lost control, traveled into a parking lot, and slammed into flatbed semi-trailer that was parked. No one was in the flatbed at the time of the collision. The two people in the car were killed. Their identities have not yet been released.

The crashes marked the 112th, 113th and 114th traffic-related fatalities in Metro's jurisdiction in 2019.
