Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Run Ceremony Set For Wednesday

As Of 2019, 134 Names Are Now Engraved On Memorial

LAS VEGAS (KXNT) - The 20th Annual Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Run will begin the first leg of its tour to honor fallen officers on Wednesday, April 24 at 7:30 a.m. The event will be held at Police Memorial Park. 

The ceremony begins at 7:30 a.m. and the run starts at 8:00 a.m. at Police Memorial Park. That's located at 3250 Metro Academy Way.

There will be another Memorial Run on Thursday, May 2, in Carson City. The ceremony for this one begins at 1 p.m. It will be at the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial at the state capitol, Legislative Grounds in Carson City.

The names of City of Las Vegas Department of Public Safety Corrections Officer Kyle Lawrence Eng and Park Ranger James P. Fleetwood will be carried during the run and added to the memorial in Carson City. Eng suffered a fatal heart attack in 2018 after struggling with an inmate. Fleetwood was killed on duty by a drunk driver in 1977.

As of 2019, 134 names are now engraved on the Memorial, therefore 134 legs will be run during this week. The event is supported by the Nevada Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police Association and the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training and various law enforcement employee organizations. Members of the media are encouraged to attend.
