Local Teachers Can Receive Free Professional Development

Program Offers Personalized Training Event In Las Vegas

November 07, 2018 - 2:14 pm

LAS VEGAS (KXNT) - On Wednesday, Vegas Public Broadcasting System (PBS) announced its involvement in a national partnership with PBS and Edcamp that will create opportunities for early childhood educators across the country to engage in peer-to-peer learning. Vegas PBS will hold Edcamp in Las Vegas, using Edcamp’s “unconference” professional development model, in which teachers lead their own learning experiences. Through this innovative effort, Vegas PBS will bring together early childhood teachers in the local Southern Nevada community to elevate their voices and empower them professionally.

Vegas PBS’ Edcamp will be free to attendees, ensuring that all local educators have access to it. The program will be open to those who work in various early childhood learning environments, including formal and informal childcare settings. PBS Edcamp will give these educators an opportunity to share in professional experiences and discuss best practices for fostering early childhood development and kindergarten readiness.

“Vegas PBS is a trusted partner and education leader in the Southern Nevada community,” said Jessica Russell, Vegas PBS Ready To Learn Coordinator. “Through our local PBS Edcamp, we are excited to build on our commitment to supporting local educators, especially those who teach young children, and offer professional development opportunities that will empower and inspire them.”

Edcamp’s personalized, participant-driven approach gives educators control over what they learn and fosters a strong sense of community among attendees. Participants propose topics they want to discuss or learn more about, build the agenda and then choose sessions to attend based on their interests and experiences. All attendees are encouraged to share ideas and methods that will enhance their practice.

Vegas PBS will hold Edcamp on Saturday, December 1, 2018, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Vegas PBS Educational Technology Campus, 3050 E Flamingo Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89121.

Space is limited. To attend, educators must register at the event registration page. Questions should be directed to Jessica Russell at [email protected] or 702.799.1010 x5413.
