LAS VEGAS (KXNT) - Watch out and be aware of weekend closure of major roads over the weekend in Las Vegas. Due to the times, and because it's the weekend, the closures shouldn't have that big an impact on drivers, but then again, Las Vegas is a 24/7 city.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will close the northbound Interstate 15 and northbound U.S. Highway 95 offramps to Martin Luther King Boulevard from 10 p.m., July 13, until 5 a.m., July 16, in downtown Las Vegas. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use the Waze navigation app for trouble-free travel.

The temporary closures are needed for bridge demolition work related to “The Main Event,” the third and final phase of work for Project Neon’s nearly $1 billion 4-mile-long widening of Interstate 15 from the U.S. 95 interchange to Sahara Avenue. Demolished concrete will be screened, crushed and reused as fill material as part of the project’s commitment to sustainability and the environment. Project Neon will construct 28 new bridges, half of which are done, due to age and capacity. Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. is the design-build general contractor, with Atkins North America as lead designer. Project Neon is Project Neon is 73 percent and scheduled for completion in the summer of 2019.

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone, heed construction signage, and take alternate detour routes, if possible. Check the Project Neon website (NDOTProjectNeon.com) or Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter pages (@NDOTProjectNeon) for up to date information. There is also a free smart phone app available, plus a hotline available in both English and Spanish at: 702-293-NEON (6366). NDOT works with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but unscheduled construction changes, closures and restrictions are possible due to weather or other factors. For the latest state highway conditions, visit nvroads.com or call 511 before driving.

NDOT will also be closing two inside lanes along northbound U.S. Highway 95 over College Drive in Henderson from 9 p.m., on Tuesday, July 17, until 4 a.m., July 18, so maintenance crews can repair bridge spalls.
