HENDERSON, NV (KXNT) - During the Nov. 6 Henderson City Council meeting, Gages Curry was presented with the 2018 Heart of the City Award in recognition of his exceptional acts of kindness that have enriched the lives of the Henderson community.

A junior at Green Valley High School (GVHS), Gages actively participates in school sports, excels in scholastics, and serves as secretary to the GVHS National Honors Society, vice president of the College and Career Club, and member of the debate club. In addition, he has coached youth soccer since he was 12. “Gages is known for his permanent predisposition to help everyone in need, treating others with patience, tolerance, and respect, coaching his young soccer players to be kind and try to do their best,” said Parks and Recreation Director Shari Ferguson.

The City’s Parks and Recreation Department accepted this year’s award nominations from August to Oct. 1, 2018. The Be Kind committee selected Gages Curry as the 2018 Heart of the City award recipient from the 34 nominations received.

The city launched the Be Kind Initiative in 2014 to bring the message of kindness citywide. As part of this initiative, the City of Henderson each year presents the Heart of the City Award to a Henderson resident or city employee who has demonstrated distinctive acts of kindness to another individual. These acts of kindness may be described as one or more of the following: improvement of academic performance; enrichment opportunities, character building, and/or mentoring; recognition of others; possessing exceptional qualities that set this person apart; an action or behavior that raised the morale of others; or sincere cooperation, positive attitude and exceptional willingness to assist others.
