Henderson Police Get Grant For Joining Forces Safety Program

Money Goes For Enforcing Traffic Laws, Driving And Pedestrian Safety

HENDERSON, NV (KXNT) - More money to keep Henderson safe.

The Henderson Police Department received a $183,860 grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety to support the on-going law enforcement’s participation in Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns during the coming year.

With the grant, the Henderson Police Department will be able to team up with other area jurisdictions for a number of Joining Forces events from October 2018 through September 2019.
Joining Forces is a high visibility, a multi-jurisdictional statewide effort to increase safety on Nevada’s roads by increasing enforcement and awareness of traffic laws. driving, seat belts, speed, and pedestrian safety.

Last year, the Henderson Police Department received $135,000 in grant monies to participate in the program from October 2017 through September 2018, issuing 3,329 citations for speeding violations, 181 citations for cell phone use (distracted driving), and 280 citations for red light violations during the Joining Forces initiatives. The Henderson Police Department will utilize the data from last year’s enforcement efforts and accident data, to plan enforcement and awareness activities with the goal of reducing traffic fatalities and impaired driving.
