LAS VEGAS (KXNT) - Clark County is hosting its free annual Small Business Expo on Thursday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dr. William U. Pearson Community Center located at 1625 W. Carey Avenue at Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Many of the exhibitors are businesses that have completed the Clark County Small Business Opportunity Program (SBOP) designed to help businesses compete for projects.

County officials said they've invited local government, casino and utilities purchasing agencies buyers and decision-makers to participate by attending the Expo to network with these businesses and discuss possible business opportunities.

Las Vegas Raiders stadium construction representatives of Mortenson/McCarthy will joint venture with Clark County during the Expo and discuss small business opportunity requirements of the project.

Local citizens and individuals looking for small businesses to perform services are welcome to attend. The event is FREE to the public.

"Clark County spends millions of dollars a year on supplies and services and we'd like as much of that as possible to go to Southern Nevada business," said Commissioner Lawrence Weekly. "We also want to ensure that disadvantaged businesses have an opportunity to compete for the County's business, which is why an event like this can be so helpful," Weekly said.

Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani agreed. "Getting just one contract with the County could help a small business to survive. Expanding the pool of businesses able to meet the County's needs also can pay dividends for taxpayers in the form of lower prices for goods and improved services," Giunchigliani added.

Representatives will be available to assist businesses with registering in the Nevada eMarketplace (NGEM) supplier database. businesses must have their TIN (Tax Identification Number) in order to register. Advanced registration for the event is not required. Local business representatives can simply show up. For more information, call (702) 455-2897. The event is organized by the County's Department of Administrative Services, Purchasing and Contracts Division.
