LAS VEGAS (KXNT) - It may be Teacher Appreciation Week in Clark County, but those same teachers will be voting this week to say if they feel appreciated enough not to walk the picket lines.

Begininng Tuesday, Clark County School District teachers will be voting to authorize a strike. If approved, the strike would commence when the 2019-2020 school year begins next August

Last week, more than 1,000 local educators marched downtown in front of the Federal Courthouse to protest a number of issues related to what they say is a lack of adequate funding: overcrowded classrooms, having to buy their own supplies and poor take - home pay. Teachers say they want to make sure that Governor Steve Sisolak honors his campaign pledge to give Clark County teachers a 3 percent raise. The President of the Clark County Education Authority estimates that it would take $120 million annually to not only fund the schools but to give teachers that 3% raise.

CCSD members will access on online portal to make their strike authorization vote, with voting open through Saturday. A recent survey said that, even though a strike would be illegal, more than 90 percent of educaters are willing to strike to get the funding they say they need
