Bicyclist Killed in Vegas Crash

Investigators: Cyclist Crossing Outside Crosswalk When Struck

April 18, 2019 - 10:57 am

LAS VEGAS (KXNT) - A bicyclist is dead after he was struck by a car in the southeast Valley Wednesday.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road around 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Las Vegas Metro Police statement.

Investigators said the bicyclist was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk on Pecos when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The bicyclist, who police say was not wearing a helmet,  died at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

A Metro spokesman said it appeared that the bicyclist failed to yield the right of way to the car, but the investigation is continuing.

Police say the driver of the car stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators, and that impairment was judged not to be a factor in the crash.

It’s the 35th traffic fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction so far in 2019.
