LAS VEGAS (AP) — The man being held in the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend pleaded not guilty to all charges on Thursday.

21 year old Giovanni Ruiz is accused in the September murder of Paula Davis. Davis was a student at UNLV and had dated Ruiz. Investigators say that Ruiz killed Davis after she attempted to break up with him.

Prosecutors say they intend to seek the death penalty

Davis was found naked in her family’s van Sept. 6. Police say she had sent Ruiz a breakup text message the same day and that investigators found a handgun missing two rounds in his home.

A medical examiner testified that there were signs indicating Davis was raped as she was dying from two gunshot wounds to the head.

Ruiz continues to be held without bail. He's charged with murder, first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, sexual assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful sexual penetration of a dead body
