Services to Be Held This Week for Terrible Herbst Founder

Funeral Tuesday; Public Memorial Thursday for Jerry Herbst

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Funeral services are scheduled this week for the founder and chairman of Terrible Herbst, Inc.

Jerry Herbst died Nov. 27 at his Las Vegas home. He was 80.

Herbst in 1959 founded the company that today consists of more than 160 convenience stores and gas stations known for their huge American flags and mustachioed caricature logo.

Passionate about racing, Herbst was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame and the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame.

Herbst and his wife raised three children.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at the Christ Church Episcopal on 2000 South Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas at noon for friends and family members. A public memorial service for all employees, business partners and extended friends to celebrate his life is set for Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. at the Terrible Herbst Employment Center on 3670 West Dewey Drive in Las Vegas.
