Typical Policies Don't Cover Quake Damage

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Insurance officials say few Nevada residents and businesses have earthquake coverage but they’re expecting interest to increase following the two California earthquakes that rattled the region.

Nevada Insurance Commissioner Barbara Richardson says more homeowners will likely consider buying the additional coverage.

She says insurance interest is piqued in homeowners anytime natural disasters occur.

Virginia Chatwin, owner of Centurion Insurance Services in Henderson, says an earthquake insurance policy can cost an extra $300 to $500 for homeowners who pay between $700 and $1,000 for annual home insurance.
